Unit is excellent for the ungodly low price vevor sells it for. When looking at the name brands units at five or ten times as expensive this unit is hard to ignore. I am very happy with the quality and ease of installation. Took about ten minutes to install and set it up with the included shims. Very pleased would buy again without hesitation for another machine.

Installed this on an old 1963 Bridgeport Series 1 milling machine I am currently renovating that has already been upgraded with a 1975 2J2 variable speed head unit. Works very well and has plenty of power. Only issue is the woodruff key in the lead screw is 1/8" and the keyway in the brass gear is 3mm. Had to take .0035" off each side of the key that protrudes from the leadscrew so the brass gear would fit. Also had to make a spacer for the lead screw to position the bearing sleeve that comes with the unit in the right position to engage the roller bearing correctly. As with all of these type drives, they share the woodruff key with the handle and don't engage very much in the brass gear. I actually removed the leadscrew and added another #406 1/8" woodruff key that fully engages the brass drive gear so will not be an issue down the road. This replaced a very old Bridgeport mechanical drive that was really heavy and also broken. This required shortening the leadscrew by cutting it off, them turning it to the same specs as an original fully manual leadscrew, rethreading the end and making a sleeve with the correct shoulder and sized to fit the bearing sleeve that came with the unit and machining in two woodruff key slots. Was not the newer style two piece leadscrew for mechanical drives.

Definitely worth it based on price. The instructions for setting the backlash based shims is ambiguous at best. I'm a hobbyist at best so I haven't put this theough its paces and can't speak to how well this holds up over longterm repeated use. The variable speed know works well, the engagement left and right ate pretty solid. The Z version of this product will be my next purchase.

Installation was very straight forward and fit perfectly with the right shimming to our Bridgeport e-mill.

It’s a good value compared to other offerings. I purchased it for a non standard knee mill, 7 -tooth 16mm Z-axis shaft. I knew it would take some extra work to adapt it and it worked out perfectly. The had to buy a 9 tooth crank for when I needed manual control. I opted to not use the handle retaining cap screw & spring as I want to be able to remove the handle and reverse it so it’s not in the way. It has plenty of power to raise the knee and beats using a drill with a drive adapter. The only issues that I encountered was one wrench flat was missing on the adapter shaft which wasn’t a big deal to mill. And for some reason this unit did not come with the channel for the switch stops. Maybe that’s why it was cheap. Not a deal breaker, I plan to use a piece of 20mm extrusion for the stops which is far more robust than what is typically supplied. The supplied manual is totally useless. There are a number of YouTube videos by folks who have installed this and similar Z-axis drives, it’s easy to adapt to just about any knee mill.
