Upgraded to the larger engine because it was on sale, glad I did. It works great in ground with rocks and roots, enough torque to break through it. I’d recommend getting the unit with the larger 10 or 12 inch auger. If I had the holes would offer little more forgiveness on fence posts. I didn’t get each one dead center in line or perfectly plumb. Had to dig them out with a shovel, larger diameter would’ve offered enough forgiveness to avoid that. Used Less than one tank of gas for 40 post holes.

Works great lots of power

Very good for soft to medium soil and loose clay. Underpowered for tough clay, rocks and roots. You can also buy generic extension rods to make deeper 4' of 5' holes.

This thing is a powerhouse! It took less time to drill 5 holes,36" deep, as it did for me to dig half of one! Money well spent!

I read a review before I bought it that the person said that the plastic engine cover was broken on his when he got it and I thought that must have been a fluke but mine came with a broken case too I mean it's just cosmetic other than that it worked as intended might want to respirator if you're not used to choking on two-stroke fumes though but that's all too strokes not just this one

Bought the chainsaw and it was meh. Bought this to get out of a jam and oh my is it awesome. Strong starter, digs tiggggght holes right down to end of shaft. I have hammered in dozens of holes already. Might struggle in clay but I’ll update review if that’s the case. Everyone building a fence should have this on hand

Worked way better than I expected. I have very rocky, clay filled soil where I had to dig. Definitely helped. Still have to clean out the hole by hand, normal, but made short work putting up electrical stantion for new service.

Normally, I would invest I'm big brand names in tools, especially if I have a use for it , multiple times a year. I took a gamble with this unit, simply for the fact, I may in only use once every couple years, and also, it cost more to rent one of these from those big box stores. I was indeed very impressed with it's performance and quality! Started on the second pull, then first pull everyone once warm. One tank of gas was used while digging 12 - 8" holes, at 36" depth. I would definitely recommend this post digger.

Worked great! For the most part, I was going through clay that had some rocks and roots mixed in. You have to really hang on and don't push too hard or it'll twist your arms around when you run into something!

very good Auger for the price, plenty of torque and can get away from you if it catches a root or a rock. it was missing a couple screws when it came but Vevor was quick and took care of it no questions asked. i would recommend, i used it for fencing and it worked for digging holes to plant trees too.
